Do you ever wake up in the morning and feel 100 years old?
This happens to many of us, especially as we get older, and this bodily stiffness may well be because of fascia - something you have probably heard Yin Yoga teachers (myself included) talk about a lot.
Fascia is a giant spider web of connective tissue that connects, binds and supports everything in the body. What happens is that it starts to shrink wrap because it has been inactive for so long and there is limited lubrication. Therefore when you have been lying in bed for hours you are not as ‘flexible’ i.e. stiffer and less hydrated. This can also happen after you have been in one position for long periods - on journeys, for example, or time spent lying down during illness or injury.
This month's free Yin Yoga audio session has therefore been designed specifically for this purpose, to get your energy moving after rolling, jumping or falling out of bed or chair. Do bear in mind that if doing this class in the morning, you may not be able to go as deep into the poses as you would later in the day or after moving a lot. Again, don’t despair! This is completely normal, so as always go with what feels right at that moment and don’t get attached to you feel you SHOULD be doing.
